The city of Chicago is special to me. It’s the only place where I grew up, the only place that I can refer to as home. I was fortunate enough to experience all the unique features that make Chicago a world-class city: the architecture, the millions of people from different backgrounds, and the vibrant culture. 

The first time I visited the Loop, the core of downtown, I was struck by the vibrant energy of the streets. The hustle and bustle of the bustling downtown area was out of this world to me. I remember my mom pointing out the massive Wrigley Building and the Harold Washington Library. The streets were bustling with people and vendors selling their wares. The sights and sounds were unlike anything I had ever seen before. I loved standing in the middle of it all and taking everything in.

As I grew older, I started to appreciate Chicago’s more hidden gems. I started exploring the nearby neighborhoods, like Logan Square and Uptown. I discovered local galleries, dive bars, and music venues in these off-the-beaten-path areas. These were places that tourists rarely explored, so I got to experience the “real” Chicago. I loved how each neighborhood felt different, with  distinct vibes and customs. It was amazing to learn the differences between them and to explore the diverse cultures that make Chicago such a special place.

Chicago’s summer festivals are some of my best memories from my childhood. Millenium Park’s Spring Onion festival, taste of Chicago, and too much too soon were just some of the events I got to enjoy. My parents would take me along to experience some of the best food, music, and culture that the city had to offer. It was a complete cultural immersion and I loved every second of it.

Growing up in Chicago, I formed many deep connective bonds. I made friends from different backgrounds, went to school with people from around the world, and experienced a culture unlike anywhere else in the world. I am so lucky to have been able to form my identity in this amazing city and I will always love it.

Chasing His Dreams in the Land of Opportunity: Kevin’s Life in the Chi

Kevin had just graduated college with a degree in Business Administration, and he was ready take on the world. He grew up in a small town with limited opportunities for advancement, but now he was determined to create the life of his dreams.

A few years later, he was hired as an assistant manager at a local chain restaurant. He quickly excelled in this position – learning all the details of the restaurant business and handling logistical issues that would arise. Kevin ended up working his way up to a joint-business venture of his own in the city. This both taught him the ins and outs of running his own business, and ultimately gave him the confidence to venture on his own.

Today, Kevin is a CEO and co-founder of a budding start-up in the city. His business specializes in offering alternative banking solutions to  underserved individuals, and with his hard work and dedication, it has quickly taken off. The sky is the limit for Kevin, and he plans to take full advantage of the “land of opportunity” he moved to years ago.

In this age of opportunity, many have planted their roots in the city to pursue their own dream.
